Subject: Re: 2017 Uncommitted Athletes

Dear Coaches,

I am sending out emails to club coaches searching for uncommitted athletes. We are in the middle of rebuilding our program, and are still in search of athletes. Our programs Head coach will be traveling around to club tournaments. So I am reaching out to gather information about any uncommitted athletes wanting to play at a 4 year institution.
So if you do have any girls, could you send through their name and jersey number.
Also if by  chance they have recruiting video and contact information, please feel free to forward on my contact details to athletes and have them contact me.

Thank you for your time.

University of Saint Mary is a private liberal school and a NAIA division school, part of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC).

About the program the head coach and myself are new to the program and just completed our first year with the team. We went 10-12 this past fall, which was better than their previous season which went 7-13. We are a program that is turning around, with a hard working attitude. We are recruiting and wanting athletes that will help us further turn around this program and help us achieve the goal of being top a top 2 team in the conference.

Our athletic page website is: http://www.gospires.com/

Scholarship wise we are a Academic reliant school, with some athletic based scholarship money. But we also offer base need scholarships, for those who require that little bit more help paying for college.

As for the university itself, here is a link to a website with a little more information about the University of Saint Mary: http://stmary.edu/About-Us.aspx  We are located about 30 minutes from downtown Kansas City. This location provides a ton of entertainment with the 3 professional sports teams, two huge concert venues and several small ones, and lots and lots of shopping (including the Legends Outlet Mall just 15 minutes down the road) all located within about 30 minutes of campus.  Also, the Kansas City airport is just about 20 minutes away so travel is pretty easy as well!

Here is a link to our undergraduate programs here at Saint Mary: http://stmary.edu/Academic-Programs/Undergraduate-Programs.aspx. We are a prestigious academic school and have been rated by the Princeton Review as one of the top Universities in the Midwest. Our student to professor ratio is 11:1, so you receive the full attention needed to be successful and all the professors will know you by your first name.

Dear Club Directors and Coaches,

We hope this email finds you well and that your club season’s are off to a good start.

The 2017 season is nearing and we are well underway with our recruiting process at San Diego Mesa College for 2017 and beyond.  We are reaching out to clubs in Southern California to find prospective players for our indoor and beach programs, and also looking for student-athletes interested in continuing playing at a high level after their high school and club careers come to a close. We are happy to look at good fits that play any position, but primarily are in need of middles, setters and pin hitters.

We are looking for student-athletes that want to join a competitive, winning program with a rich history of excellence on and off the court, giving them an opportunity to develop and transfer to a four-year institution and perhaps receive a scholarship to continue playing.

We have been a powerhouse in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference for many years and one of the top-10 most winning community colleges in California in the last decade, taking home conference championships in 2013, 2012, 2011, 2009, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 1998, 1997, 1994, 1992, 1984 and 1982, along with being State Championship Finalists in 2004 as the runner-up and 2006 as semi-finalists. We continue to compete at a very high level and have been fortunate enough to get scholarship offers for virtually every sophomore transferring out of the program. We strive to get back to the top of our conference and get back to the state finals.

Below, you will find a link to our Recruiting Questionnaire, our Info Form for Recruits, a link to our website and attached is an informational sheet for you to share with your athletes so they are aware of all of the opportunities that Mesa College offers. Please let us know if you have an athlete in your program that we should consider for our program and share this info with any players who you believe would be a good fit for our indoor and/or beach program and we will take it from there!

As a coaching staff, we plan to be actively recruiting around Southern California this spring.  We will be at most of the the 18 and under club events, including the Junior National Qualifiers and the Las Vegas Showcase.

We hope to hear from you soon and see you out at the various events that we will be attending. Best of luck to you, your club and all of those in your program this season. We hope it is the best one yet!

Good Afternoon,

My name is Lea Hartigan and I am the head volleyball coach at Iowa Lakes Community College.  I took over the program in June with 6 players on my roster and had a little bit of a rough start but I was able to get the roster to 9 players by the time we started season.  Of those 9 I have 7 graduating or moving on to a new college, so I am looking to rebuild a team and have a lot of opportunities for incoming freshman to make an impact right away. I will be recruiting in Las Vegas for Presidents Day and was hoping to get a jump start on the recruiting for that weekend.  I got your email address off of SCVAvolleyball.org and I was hoping you could put the word out to any unsigned seniors who are still looking to see if any would be interested in Iowa Lakes and if they will be playing in Las Vegas February 18th-20th.

I am looking for players in all positions, I am pretty full in the L/DS position.  I am still looking for 1 outside, 2 setters, 2 middles, and an opposite.  We play in the Iowa Community College Athletics Conference (ICCAC), there are 9 teams in our conference and from those 9 teams we get 2 bids to the national tournament.  We have a very strong conference and we typically see the top players from our conference going on to play D1 or D2, we have a current freshman on the team this year at Iowa Lakes who was Freshman of the Year in the conference who is already receiving a few D1 looks.

I do have volleyball scholarships for athletes and there are also academic scholarships available at the school for students with good GPA and ACT/SAT scores http://www.iowalakes.edu/financial_aid/scholarships/presidential-scholar-and-honors/ .  Since we are a division 2 junior college we are able to help with tuition but we cannot give volleyball scholarships for room and board.  The total cost of school per year is around $13,000.  Tuition is about $6000 for 16 credits/semester, room and board is $6000 and books and fees estimate out to about $1000.

Iowa Lakes is a two-year school located in Northwest Iowa. The school offers over 60 transfer degrees and over 75 two-year certificates/degree programs. We are one of the top two-year institutions in the state for graduation and transfer rates. The courses are taught by qualified instructors and we maintain a small student-to-teacher ratio. You’ll receive a more personalized education with individual attention. We also have state-of-the-art facilities and our staff is very dedicated and caring.  I have included a link with our majors for your players to get a better idea of what each program could offer them at Iowa Lakes.  http://www.iowalakes.edu/academic_programs/http://www.iowalakes.edu/academic_programs/college_transfer/

After their two years at Iowa Lakes I would help them in finding the 4-year school of their choice.  I have a lot of good connections at every level and would use those connections to help the athletes get recruited.  Junior colleges are a great way to save a little bit of money on tuition as well as give athletes two more years of development before going on to a 4-year school.  There are a lot of D1 and D2 programs that have already filled their rosters for the 2017 season or do not have scholarship money left until next year.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks,

Lea Hartigan

Dear Club Directors and Coaches,

My name is Kait Kozak- I am the Head Volleyball Coach at Goucher College.  I was hired a few months ago to rebuild the program, and I inherited a very small team. I am still looking for a 2017 middle hitter and pin hitter that can impact our program immediately.  Do you have any unsigned seniors that would be a good fit for us?  I’ve included a brief description of Goucher below if you are not familiar with us.

A little bit about Goucher:  Goucher College is a selective liberal arts college located near Baltimore, MD.  We are most known for our #1 ranking in Study Abroad, #6 ranking in Most Innovative College, and TOP FORTY ranking in Colleges that Changes Lives.  We attract students from all over the country, and take pride in our diversity California is our 5th most popular state).  As mentioned above, I was hired a few months ago to rebuild the program, and 2017 will be my first recruiting class (I spent the previous five years at the US Naval Academy- I’ve been in touch with many of you in the past). We compete in the NCAA Division 3 Landmark conference which historically has been dominated by Juniata College.  My long term (hopefully not that long) goal is to compete at a high level, and to be a top Division 3 program.   I am looking for hardworking and highly competitive  volleyball players that can impact the program immediately.  Our cost of tuition is high, but so is the quality of our education. We do offer academic merit money ranging from 9,000-24,000 per year, and need based financial aid. Our packages are typically very strong  for good students.  More:  www.goucher.edu

Lastly,  my apologies for sending this as a group email (and if you have already heard from me).  I typically reach out individually, but it is getting very late in the 2017 recruiting process, and I feel this is the best way to disseminate information about our program to you in a timely fashion.  My cell phone is 814-386-3661 if you’d prefer to call me directly.

Best wishes for a healthy and happy holiday and new year!

Hi Coach,

My name is Braden Zamore, and I am the new head women’s volleyball coach at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, NH. We are an NCAA Division II institution. We’re coming off of a great season this past season, and still have a few needs for this fall of 2015. We’re looking for a strong Middle Blocker, a six-rotation Outside Hitter and we’d love to bring in a setter too. We have quite a bit of available athletic scholarship money. Even though it’s late in this year’s recruiting cycle, I am still looking for unsigned/uncommitted senior student-athletes in your California club who can help us reach our goal of a conference title next year.

If you didn’t know already, Saint Anselm is an NCAA division II program and competes in the NE-10 conference. We’re a private, liberal arts college that is nationally renowned for its high-standard, quality education (ranked one of top 80 colleges in the country). We have the 17th most beautiful campus, and 10th best college food in the nation according to the Princeton Review! More importantly, students leave here with a fantastic education, and I’m making sure my players leave here with an intense, fun and rewarding volleyball experience.

Check us out online: www.anselm.edu

I’ve hit the ground running since starting here in early February. We have a great outlook for years to come and I’m looking for the last few pieces to help reach our goals next season.

Please forward this to any athlete you feel may be a good fit for us. I’d be thrilled to speak to any prospective student-athlete to see if they’re what we’re looking for, and let them know we can offer them on and off the court. Thanks for your time and any help you can provide.

Sincerely,

Braden Zamore

Hello,

My name is Chris and I work with the Rice University volleyball program.  Rice volleyball has a walk on setter position available for the 2015 class and we were wondering if you have a player that would be interested.  This player would need to meet the following criteria:

1240 SAT
or
27 ACT

They would also need to pay tuition for all four years of college (50,000 a year).  If you know of someone who would be interested, please email Associate Head Coach Melissa Ferris at: mferris@rice.edu.

Thank you for your time and good luck this club season!

Hi Coach,
I hope your club season is off to a good start! After being the coach at Iowa Central in 2009 and 2010, I’m happy to be back as the new coach once again! We are still in need for some girls for our 2015 class. Do you have any unsigned seniors that I could talk with about Iowa Central?

I know you may be unfamiliar with our school, so if you’d like, here is some info about what we have to offer:
WHY you should look at a 2 year school:

1) Did you know that 1 out of every 3 college students transfers to another institution before they are done with their degree (http://chronicle.com/article/A-Third-of-Students-Transfer/130954/)? Why do students transfer? Many reasons, including not connecting with their school, classmates, or professors; financial reasons; issues with home; and many more. At Iowa Central we are committed to helping you find the perfect school after you leave here, and while you are here, we are committed to helping you have an amazing experience!

2) It makes sense financially. We have GREAT scholarships here and a really affordable price. With our total tuition, room, and board at around $10,000 a year, scholarships can allow you to pay very little! http://www.iowacentral.edu/financial_aid/scholarships.asp?fa=t

3) It allows you to figure out what you want to do academically and what different types of experiences you’re looking for by exposing you to a variety of activities, experiences, and opportunities. You can go anywhere from Iowa Central, and we have the tools here to help you accomplish anything you want to do! All of your credits will transfer to a 4 year school if that’s what you choose, helping you to graduate in 4 years while saving you money! http://www.iowacentral.edu/student_activities/index.asp

4) A great athletic experience. Iowa Central volleyball has competed in the National tournament three out of the last four years, finishing 10th at this year’s tournament. You can play for one of the best junior college teams in the country, which is going to expose you to a very large number of four year schools looking for juniors to come in and be difference makers on their team. Not only is a the volleyball program one of the best, Iowa Central has won the National 2 Year College Athletic Cup 5 out of the last 6 years, meaning of ALL of the 2 year schools across the country, our school has the best overall sports team! http://www.ictritons.com/volleyball/

5) There are 6,000 students here at Iowa Central, with over 600 student athletes and over 1,000 students living on campus in our apartment style dorms. We are a big enough school that you will be offered a large range of activities and opportunities, but still small enough where your professors know and care about you! We are probably not the typical 2 year school that you may be use to, as you can see on the above map, we are not a tiny school! http://www.ictritons.com/facilities/index.asp

6) Enjoy hanging out with your friends in our 4-year old student resource center with a state of the art library, commons area with ping pong tables, pool tables, snack bar, video game consoles, and more! http://www.iowacentral.edu/student_activities/src.asp

7) Enjoy a plethora of food choices at our 2-year old, 3000 square foot, state of the art cafeteria!!

8) Brand new buildings are all over campus, including our 4 year old Bioscience building, which is powered by our geo-thermal on campus pond! Checkout this short video to see more! http://www.elocallink.tv/vp6/spon-fcsa_a.php?fvm=1&sponid=BzUFPQRmWDUFMg==&vid=UmdeblY0UTwFNVRk

9) Our dorms aren’t dorms, they’re apartments! Each apartment has a living room, kitchen, dining area, 2 bedrooms, and 1-2 bathrooms! No more old school, tiny rooms!

Thank you!

Club Directors, Recruiting Coordinators, and Coaches,

My name is Zach Shaver and I am the head coach at Yavapai College in Prescott, AZ. (I apologize for the introduction to those of you I already know.)

Yavapai College is a NJCAA DI school with substantial athletic scholarship funding which competes in the ACCAC. 80% of our players transfer on the 4 year volleyball programs primarily at the NCAA DI, DII and NAIA levels. Yavapai College has over 11,000 students including about 5,000 full time students on the main campus which has quality residence halls.

We recruit from all over the western U.S. but typically about 40% – 60% of our team is from CA and NV. This year and last we have had players from the following clubs: Rincon, Wave, Goldenwest, Viper, Laguna Beach, Edge, Prime, Vision, and Absolute.

We only have a few openings for 2015 because we have 12 returning freshmen and we already signed a setter from Webfoot Jrs. in OR. We are recruiting  for 1 middle blocker and 2 pin hitters. We are looking for players who can make an impact and compete for playing time as freshmen. If you have anyone in your club you think we should consider please send me as much information as possible or have the athlete contact me through email or our online questionnaire. http://www.goroughriders.com/volleyball/volleyball-recruiting/

In case you are not familiar with the level of competition in our conference here are 2 highlight clips from this past season.

Dear Barb,

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.  I am emailing you to inquire about the available players in your 2015 class.  I am sure you have already finalized your rosters and are prepping the teams.

Briefly summary of my tenure here at Wesleyan College, in July 2013, I was hired as the first full time coach at Wesleyan in 10 years coming from head coaching stints at Division I and Division II.  With a roster of 7 players, we managed to have the best season in school history.  This past season was plagued with injuries, yet still managed to show marked improvement in play and advancement of our system.  Everyone see’s it starting to build here, we have gained momentum.

Now I am looking for quality players.  I need a quality libero, middle hitter, and outside hitter to go with our improved setting.  Ball control is critical in our conference.  Any player that is touching 9’2” or higher with good ball control can have a solid career at our level.  All conference honors, etc…

I am aware there is no WOW factor to in your players going a Division III path when they have invested in travel and your training.  But this is about getting a quality private education and having the chance to make a difference, not just make a roster.   Having a career they can look back on with pride.  Accomplishing what nobody else ever has at their college…a championship!

What have learned in coaching 20 years at both club and college levels: there is a right fit for every kid that has a desire to play volleyball.   I hope you will forward me any information on kids that might be looking to come East and get this experience.

Thank you in advance for your efforts.  I hope to hear from you soon!
