Sydney DeTurk

Sydney DeTurk grew up in Southern California and played club in the SCVA throughout high school. She attended Yucaipa High as a tri-sport athlete. She started coaching to share her knowledge and love for the game with others. She has been coaching for 14+ years for club, high school, boys and girls, across all ages. She played middle and opposite for San Diego State and Concordia University, Irvine, where her team played in the NAIA national final. She later played professionally in Europe. She received her Bachelor’s in Kinesiology from SDSU and Masters in Special Education from Azusa Pacific University and works full-time in education. Her favorite moments of volleyball include the team competition and adrenaline that ensues while growing in her skills to play at the highest level. As well as getting stuff blocks versus nationally ranked players. In her free time, she enjoys going on hikes and playing beach volleyball. She has played in many beach finals and tournaments competitively, and continues to play recreationally. She came to LJV last season (2024-2025) and assisted the 15-1s, where they competed at Junior Olympics in Dallas. She has coached high school (JV2) at Santa Fe Christian for the last 5 years. She likes to blend competitiveness, technical skill and fun in her coaching style. Sydney is effective at breaking down foundational skills in all areas and catering to the needs of each player. She enjoys being at LJV for its small club feel, passionate staff and to be able to support her local community.
