Franklin Ebalida brings a player-first, culture-driven approach to his coaching at La Jolla Volleyball. In addition to his role at LJV, Franklin has served as Head Coach of both the Boys and Girls Varsity Volleyball programs at High Tech High Mesa, and has coached athletes ranging from 12s through 18s — giving him year-round experience developing players at every stage of the game, at both the school and club levels.
Born in the Philippines and raised in Chula Vista, Franklin is a longtime member of the San Diego volleyball community. His coaching philosophy centers on developing the whole athlete — technically, mentally, and as a teammate. He believes volleyball teaches accountability and resilience, and he works to build teams where players compete hard, trust each other, and hold themselves to a high standard. Winning matters, but growth is always the goal.
A developmental coach at heart, Franklin specializes in setter training and takes pride in building fundamentals the right way — meeting each athlete where they are and growing their game from there. His practices are intentional and game-like: dynamic warm-ups, serve-pass foundations, skill-specific work, and competitive team reps under pressure, so players leave the gym energized and better than they walked in. He is known for being demanding but fair, transparent about how playing time is earned, and genuinely invested in his athletes beyond the court.
Off the court, Franklin is a higher education administrator and serves as Director of Education at a San Diego college, bringing strong organizational, communication, and program-building skills to everything he runs. He holds a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Point Loma Nazarene University and a Bachelor of Arts from UC Santa Barbara. A first-generation college graduate, Franklin coaches with a deep belief in what young athletes can accomplish when someone believes in them.
