GIRLS Programs Offered
Welcome to La Jolla Volleyball, where we emphasize proper technique, dedicated coaches, and improving every player. We stress safety, good sportsmanship, and strive for instilling self-confidence and respect.
With all of our programs, the best way to stay informed is to be on our LJV emailing list.
Send an email to Barb and include your daughter’s name, current grade and school.
FALL School-based teams (in a typical, non-COVID year)
Tryouts are held in late August, teams are formed primarily of Muirlands-area players to compete against other school-based teams. LJV Fall teams are open to all players, but we encourage players to compete with their own school teams for the short school-based Fall season.
LJV teams will participate in a series of 3-4 tournaments in Poway (2 dates in September and 1-2 dates in October). Some LJV Fall teams will also compete in scheduled matches against other local school teams.
Fall teams are formed in two age groups:
– 5th & 6th graders will compete in 12U division (lower net, lighter “VolleyLite” volleyball)
– 7th & 8th graders will compete in 14U division (full-height net, regulation weight volleyball)
SPRING CLUB teams, Local and Travel (in typical, non-COVID year)
This is our longest season, and the primary “club” volleyball season throughout the nation at all age levels.
Tryouts are conducted in October, or whenever the Southern California Volleyball Association (SCVA) allows club tryouts to start.
Practices for all teams will start in November or December and tournament competitions for all Spring club teams begin in Nov/Dec and continue through May or June, depending on the team.
Local teams will compete in the Spike-Fest series of 6 tournaments in Poway, January-May. Advanced Local teams may choose to extend their season for a June tournament at extra expense, if desired.
Travel teams are the most competitive LJV teams in each age division and will compete in the Southern California Volleyball Association (SCVA) series of tournaments in Southern California. Travel teams will compete through June, higher-level (“national”) teams conclude with a major travel tournament at the end of June (Summer Soiree in Anaheim, Festival in Phoenix, USA Volleyball Junior Nationals or AAU Junior National Championships). Travel teams have a higher cost due to SCVA fees, tournament entries and additional coaching/travel time.
