General Info
This is our longest season and the primary “club” volleyball season throughout the nation at all age levels.
Tryouts are conducted in late July, or whenever the Southern California Volleyball Association (SCVA) allows club tryouts to start.
Practices for all teams will start in November or December and tournament competitions for all Spring club teams begin in Nov/Dec and continue through May or June, depending on the team.
Local teams will compete in the Volley-Fest series of tournaments in Rancho Bernardo, in January-May. Advanced Local teams may choose to extend their season for a June tournament at extra expense if desired.
Travel teams are the most competitive LJV teams in each age division and will compete in the Southern California Volleyball Association (SCVA) series of tournaments in Southern California. Travel teams will compete through June, and higher-level (“national”) teams conclude with a major travel tournament at the end of June (Summer Soiree in Anaheim, Festival in Phoenix, USA Volleyball Junior Nationals, or AAU Junior National Championships). Travel teams have a higher cost due to SCVA fees, tournament entries, and additional coaching/travel time.
Overview:
- 15s-18s (9th-12th grade) have tryouts in late July, then take a club break to play on their respective high school teams (cannot play on club vb team during the same time as HS team). Tournaments begin in December and continue through May/June.
- 10U-14U 94th-8th grade) have tryouts in early October, and start practices by early November (or sooner). Tournaments December-May/June.
- “Local” teams compete in a series of 6-7 local tournaments in Rancho Bernardo (Volley-Fest tournament series); focus on development; less competitive (and less expensive).
- “Travel” teams compete in SCVA tournaments throughout Southern California (generally higher level of play & bigger commitment and more expensive), and some out-of-state tournaments as well, depending on the team (13U-18U)
